Colleen Brien
Colleen's journey with exercise began with a background in gymnastics and running, drawn to the physical benefits and the positive impact on her mind and well-being. While she always enjoyed practicing yoga, it wasn’t until 2015, when she attended her first hot yoga class, that her yoga journey truly began to unfold. Initially attracted to yoga for exercise and flexibility maintenance, Colleen quickly realised its deeper dimensions—a connection to something higher, encompassing not just physical well-being, but emotional and spiritual fulfillment as well.
Colleen finds joy in teaching flow classes, including ladder flows and dynamic sequences, yet she meets her students where they are, encouraging them to tune into their practice and honor their bodies. She personally enjoys strong flows, where the union of breath and movement brings a meditative stillness to the mind. Over time, she has come to appreciate slower classes as well, having initially found them challenging due to their demand for presence and stillness. Through her own journey, she has learned to hold space for others to explore the depths of their practice—to embrace stillness, surrender, and cultivate self-awareness of body and mind.
For Colleen, the most rewarding aspect of teaching is witnessing her students' transformative journeys—gaining awareness of their body, breath, and mind on the mat, and carrying that awareness into their everyday lives. She finds fulfillment not only in seeing personal expression and growth during yoga practice, but also in observing how yoga permeates into off-the-mat experiences—shaping how individuals respond to life with greater self-connection, releasing what no longer serves them, and nurturing self-love.
